About Counselling

You may be thinking what is the difference between counselling and therapy, both of these terms are often used interchangably. However, counselling is often used to describe shorter length therapeutic support and therapy is used for more gradual and longer work. I can offer you a psychoanalytic counselling approach, where I will listen to you share everything that is on your mind, and help you to work out why you feel the way you do. Our work together, will be shaped around understanding how past experiences, may have influenced your present beliefs, ways of thinking, and together we can consider what can be different for you. Through talking, I can help you to understand the source of problems, the choices that you have, and guide you, to bring about the change that you want. Counselling can be a difficult and emotional process, but you don’t have to face it alone. It can seem overwhelming talking to someone you don’t know about how you feel and think, particuarly if you haven’t shared those thoughts or feelings with anyone before. I want you to know that I will not pressure you or tell you what to do. Our counselling work will only be led by what you feel comfortable to share. I am here, to guide you on your journey.

The next step

If you feel, that counselling may be suitable for you, please contact me, via email, or telephone, and we can talk about any questions you may have, and arrange an inital consultation. At the initial consultation, we will talk through your reasons for seeking counselling, what you may expect from the therapy process, and if you feel it would be right for you. I can offer you, longer term counselling, which can be open ended, or shorter length counselling, which we can discuss together. Attending an initial consultation, does not mean that you are obligated, to attend therapy sessions with me.
